Sunshine After the Rain: A Wonderful Summer Barbecue at Privett

The morning of 26th July began with a surprising half an hour of rain, much needed for gardens all around Privett. Thankfully, it stopped and brightened up and by the time guests arrived the sun was shining brightly for our annual Summer Barbecue.
Thanks are due to the many Privett residents who helped make this event such a success, from preparing salads in advance to coordinating the exact timings for lighting the barbecue, cooking the food, laying out tables and chairs, serving food etc. It really is a finely honed machine!Â
It was great to see the regulars who join us at the barbecue year in, year out, but also lovely to welcome some new local residents, and to have children playing while the adults chatted.
The meat came from Smith's Butchers in West Meon, so a big thank you to them. It was cooked by a team of willing helpers (men, of course, who do so enjoy staring into the embers and conjuring up a primeval past).
Overall, the event was a great success. We had between 65 and 70 guests, and very little went to waste. Thank you to everybody who joined in and to everybody who helped make it such a fun day for the village.
Next year we are hoping to add more games, so any ideas for outdoor activities would be gratefully received. Please get in touch if you have any ideas for this.Â
